The Process
You will be notified of the receipt of your application by the Standby Register
team. A thorough review of your application and CV against the skills requirements of the Register will be undertaken.
Should the first phase review of your application be viewed positively, you will be contacted by us to arrange a telephone interview. Should we however deem your skills and experience not suitable for the Register, we will contact you to discuss referral pathways.
If you have participated in a telephone interview that was viewed positively by the RedR team as well as yourself, you will then be invited to attend the two mandatory training courses that make up an integral part of the RedR Australia’s recruitment process and your preparation for potential future field deployment.
A face to face interview follows the completion of the training courses and is generally conducted in the days immediately following the course. If you are accepted on to the Register, you will be required to provide RedR Australia with some additional administrative documents (e.g. Australian Federal Police check, Academic Transcripts, Passport scan and Passport photographs). Once all documents are received, you will be placed on the Register.
Please Note: Being part of the Standby Register does not necessarily guarantee field assignments. Deployment depends on your suitability for the roles for which we receive requests, on your availability and on the decision of the field organisation which has asked RedR Australia to nominate candidates. For more information please see How the Register Works.
About training
Standby Register applicants are required to attend our mandatory training courses:
• Essentials of Humanitarian Practice and
• Personal Security and Communications
Completion of these courses serve a number of purposes:
• to orientate you the international humanitarian sector and its multiple actors
• to introduce you to key concepts and standards that are applied to humanitarian missions
• to provide you with the opportunity to engage in team activities and simulations that emulate humanitarian field operations
• to enhance your understanding of the commitment vital to undertake field missions and the personal attributes required to effectively operate in insecure, high stress environments
Course fees are subsidised for Approved Register applicants. To be eligible for the reduced course fee, individuals must submit an application, complete the phone interview and be invited to attend the two mandatory training courses as a result of their being deemed a good prospect for inclusion on the Standby Register.
