To join our register you need practical specialist experience, as well as the ability to cope with unfamiliar situations, to work in difficult and often dangerous environments, and to work in either culturally diverse teams or independently.Originally the RedR register listed only engineers. Today the register covers other sectors of humanitarian aid, including logistics, surveying, air operations, communications, protection, social services and humanitarian co-ordination. Applicants assessed to be suitable are placed on the register and their details are submitted when field agencies make requests to RedR Australia. Many field assignments, known as deployments, are short term. This may involve taking leave from a job in Australia. Others choose to pursue a career in the aid sector and do regular field placements with RedR Australia and other organisations. A general principle of RedR operation is the provision of experts with a view to assisting local administration to resume control as soon as possible after a disaster.
