How do I apply to join the Register? Print E-mail

RedR Australia is committed to selecting suitable people and making sure they are well trained for the difficult and sometimes dangerous work of humanitarian aid in natural disasters and complex emergencies.

The application process is thorough and demands a significant commitment of your time and energy.  If we are unable to accept you onto our Register, the process will have helped you clarify your key competencies and aptitude for humanitarian work and any additional training you require.

Self-assessment

  • What motivates you to want to do humanitarian work ?
  • Would you prefer to work in emergency response or community development ?
  • How do your skills and experience match the requirements of humanitarian aid organisations ?
  • What are your key competencies ?
  • Are you prepared to work in a cross-cultural team, with hard or basic living conditions ?

Application

Complete the application form and proforma CV and submit them by email, fax or post.  Application guidance notes explain the information required.

Please nominate in your application the dates on which you propose to attend the two mandatory training courses (training calendar).

Telephone interview

We will speak with you by telephone to clarify your relevant skills and experience and ensure you understand how our Register and deployments operate.

If we believe you have skills and practical experience that might be suitable for the register, you will be invited to enrol for the two mandatory training courses.

If we feel that you are not currently suitable for the roles to which we deploy people we will offer suggestions for additional training, skills development or alternative organisations.

Referees

After the telephone interview, RedR Australia will contact your two referees.

Training

Attend our mandatory training courses:
Essentials of Humanitarian Practice and Personal Security and Communications

By doing the courses you will obtain a clearer idea of where your skills – including some you may not have thought of – might fit into the field.  It will also demonstrate your commitment to humanitarian training.

Course fees are subsidised for Register applicants.

Face-to-face interview

After you have completed both training courses we will invite you to an interview at a convenient time and place.

Acceptance onto the RedR Australia Register

If accepted, you will be required to undergo a check by the Austalian Federal Police and complete some additional administrative documentation.  You will be placed on the standby register, to await notification of field assignment requests that might match your skills and availability.

Being part of the Register does not necessarily guarantee field assignments.  Deployment depends on your suitability for the roles for which we receive requests, on your availability and on the decision of the field organisation which has asked RedR Australia to nominate candidates.
