Essentials of Humanitarian Practice  Ever wondered what it takes to be a humanitarian aid worker? This five day intensive course provides an indepth insight into the aid world, as well as the needs of vulnerable people in complex and challenging settings. Our course has a proven track record in equipping individuals with the skills to respond effectively to a humanitarian crisis. It is essential training for overseas assignments with RedR,  AusAID, and many other NGOs. Come along and see why. But book early, as this course fills quickly.

Personal Security & Communications  Learn how to respond to security and safety threats. This is a scenario based course that will not only provide you with the tools to manage your safety, but also to operate communications equipment and develop your team skills. This popular course is essential training for work in humanitarian aid. 

Needs Assessment:  Basic concepts and approaches for emergency needs assessment including participation and people-focused.  Includes planning and preparation, frameworks, tools and techniques.

Protection in Humanitarian Work  What are the physical, psychological and social security needs of people who do not have a safe and secure environment, such as refugees and IDPs? Explore issues of vulnerability, threat reduction, and building community capacity for self protection. Whether you are a logistician, an engineer or a security officer, this course will enable you to implement protection skills into your humanitarian aid work.

Core Technical Sectors of Humanitarian Practice  Understand the problems faced in each sector and how to use minimum standards to improve the delivery of assistance in health services, nutrition, food aid, shelter and site planning, water supply and sanitation, communications and education in emergencies.

Logistics  How do you stack 10 000 cooking pots? Our logistics course provides an update on logistics as practised in a humanitarian setting. Around 25% of RedR assignments are in logistics, and this course gives you the tools to do a logistics assignment with RedR or with other aid agencies.

Water, Environment and Sanitation in Emergencies  Can you design and construct a water supply and toilet system for 10 000 people in a week? Learn how to apply water engineering skills in an overseas emergency. Get your hands dirty building latrines, setting up pumps and tanks, and learning about water purification methods.

Managing safety and security in the field  We provide the practical skills and tools for managers and team leaders in the field to help them manage the security and safety of their staff who are working for humanitarian agencies.
