Since 1980, RedR International have taken the lead in providing quality training for humanitarian aid work throughout the world. RedR Australia has been training humanitarian workers since 1998, working with UNHCR eCentre, WFP and UNICEF as well as the NGO community to provide training in Australia and throughout the Asia Pacific. We continue to be the preferred training provider for AusAID staff and the NGO community, attracting participants from all over the world. In recognition of our training expertise, all UN Agencies (WFP, UNICEF, UNHCR and UN OCHA) use our training as a pre-requisite for people seeking to join field missions.

About our training

We are committed to the training concept of “honouring the learner”. We recognise that different people learn and teach with different styles which reflect different personalities and cultural backgrounds. Our training uses a range of different training methods, including lectures, group work, individual reflection, role plays, simulation exercises, and videos. We have a particular focus on realistic scenario exercises that are a practical learning experience, and provide you with the skills to hit the ground running when working in an humanitarian emergency.

Who are our trainers?

Our courses are facilitated by our staff and other highly experienced international practitioners. They are humanitarian aid specialists who have worked for UN Agencies and a range of humanitarian organisations. RedR Australia’s trainers bring with them many years of field and operational experience with a variety of international organisations in both natural disasters and complex emergencies.

Where are the courses run?

Located at Dookie, near Shepparton, Victoria, our live-in courses provide a range of learning experiences, including scenarios and field exercises.

“Our training enables aid workers to be highly competent in the emergency setting. As well as specialist skills, we provide the skills to assess a humanitarian situation and be able to apply big picture solutions. For example, a water and sanitation specialist needs to look not just at environmental health solutions, but also understand other issues such as hygiene promotion and protection implications. We train professional aid workers to see the overall goal of minimising suffering and loss of life.”  Drasko Kraguljac, RedR Australia Training Co-ordinator
